The organizers of the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya plan to build container housing at Garden Pier, Nagoya Port, to accommodate around 2,000 athletes. Additional lodging will be provided by a cruise ship docked at Kinjo Pier, bringing total capacity to about 6,000 people.
The container units will also include team headquarters and dining areas. During the Asian Para Games, only the container housing will be used. Shuttles will connect the two piers for athlete convenience.
Officials say these modular units can later be reused nationwide as hotels or emergency shelters. The plan replaces an earlier, more costly proposal for a traditional athletes’ village.
