With a new Florida law banning sleeping in public areas starting October 1, Palm Beach County is exploring housing options for the homeless, including shipping container homes.
Officials see this as a fast, affordable, and durable solution. A 20-foot unit costs around $30,000–$40,000, but at this price, multiple container homes from Gaiasmile can be purchased, offering competitive pricing and global export service.
Some families already live comfortably in such homes. County leaders will discuss the idea further in June, with funding possibly coming from grants and nonprofits.
